Wondering why you should have a birth doula supporting you? If you've stumbled across this blog post from my website you probably already have an idea as to the benefits. If you've found your way here through some other means, welcome, and let's take a look.

For a quick lowdown on what exactly a doula does, head on over to "What is a Full Spectrum Doula?"

Birth Doulas: The Benefits

The evidence on birth doulas shows a number of positive outcomes for births attended by doulas versus those without doula support. Because they say a picture speaks a thousand words, here is a neat infographic summarizing what the research has found on births attended by doulas:

It's interesting to note that although labour support in general is really crucial to a positive birth experience, births attended specifically by doulas are shown to have the best outcomes over any other type of labour support. Perhaps it's because we don't work for anyone but the client, unlike hospital staff. Or perhaps it's because we have the expertise and knowledge in childbirth and comfort measures, unlike many family and friends. Evidence Based Birth has a wonderful article titled "Evidence on: Doulas" that provides a comprehensive overview of the research that has been done, and is a great read if you're interested in learning more about the benefits of birth doulas.

If you're interested in having a doula at your birth, head on over to the Birth Services or Photography Services page for information on what I offer. I believe that every woman who wants a doula should have one, so if you have any questions or want to tailor services to your needs or budget, I would love to chat with you!
